Talking to Grok Bot: Voice Chats and Dictation

Checked against xAI's official docs on Oct 28, 2026

Driving between jobs, or just faster talking than typing? You can talk to Grok Bot instead of writing. Here's what xAI's changelog says about voice, checked on Oct 28, 2026.

Voice chats with your Bot

Dictation and voice input

Per the changelog, you can press or hold ⌘D (Ctrl+D on Windows and Linux) to dictate into the message box, and dictation writes words in while you're still speaking. Voice input detects the language you speak instead of assuming your app's language.

Voice memos

While a Bot's voice memo plays, its transcript highlights each word in sync with the audio, and clicking a word jumps playback there.

Good ways to use voice: our suggestions

These are our ideas, not xAI's.

  1. Talk through your notes right after a client visit. See service visit recaps.
  2. Plan your week out loud on a Sunday walk. See your weekly plan.
  3. Read the Bot's written result before anything goes to a customer. See approval rules.
  4. Skip private details when you're on a call in a public place.
