Built a Bot that works well? Templates let you share it. Or you can install one someone else made. Here's how xAI explains templates, from its Templates for Grok Bot guide, checked on Oct 28, 2026.
A recipe, not a clone
xAI says a template is a collection of skills, memories, and plugins. It's a blueprint that lets someone else launch their own copy of your Bot. xAI's comparison: think of it like a recipe, not a meal. The person who uses it makes their own version, and it may turn out a little different.
What's in a template, and what isn't
Per xAI's guide:
- Included: a copy of the Bot's instructions, relevant memories and skills, and specific plugins. Routines, the triggers for how often a Bot runs on its own, are part of what it reviews.
- Left out: personal or internal memories, plus sensitive items like custom code and scripts. xAI says templates don't share secrets or private information.
- Extra setup: non-standard plugins like custom MCP servers aren't included, and the new Bot may need to reinstall plugins. xAI suggests telling your Bot to write setup instructions into the template for anything that needs API keys.
Sharing one
xAI says there's a Share as Template button in a Bot's settings. Clicking it packages the Bot but doesn't make it public. Templates start as an anonymized, private version, and you then choose to share with just your team or create a public link. Clicking Publish makes it live and gives you a link to copy. View Details shows exactly what's included.
Installing someone else's
On a template page, you click Add to Grok Bot, review the context and integrations it includes, then click Add Bot. You get a distinct new copy. xAI's advice is to be very careful about what you install: view the details, read through the context and integrations, and make sure everything is what you'd expect.
Before you install one: our checklist
