Lots of small teams live in Slack. Grok Bot can work there too. Here's what xAI's changelog says about Bots in Slack, checked on Oct 28, 2026. Some of this is for Team Bots, which xAI marks as a Teams feature.
Team Bots in Slack
xAI's changelog (version 0.61.0, September 26, 2026) says Team Bots let you publish one Bot for your whole team, and teammates chat with it in the app or Slack, each in their own conversation. Per the changelog:
- Where they work: Team Bots reply in threads, read channels they've joined, answer workflow mentions, start new posts, and keep links, code, and tables intact.
- Each person's own usage: teammates' use of a Team Bot counts against their own allowance, and the Bot keeps private notes for each person.
- Routines from Slack: you can ask a Team Bot in Slack to set up, change, pause, or delete your routines, after linking your Slack account in Settings.
Drafts and approvals in Slack
- Drafts first: your Bot can write a Slack message as a draft for you to review, then Send or Discard it. Drafts show a formatted preview and who the message notifies.
- Approvals in the thread: when a Bot needs your approval in a Slack thread, it posts a Review an action card only you can answer.
- Quiet posting: when a Bot posts to Slack for you, such as from a routine, your phone isn't notified.
Privacy in shared channels
xAI's changelog says that in shared Slack conversations, the Bot checks each post against who can read it before sending. It also says people without a linked Grok Bot account can't use the owner's logins or private data through the owner's Bot.
Using a Bot in Slack: our suggestions
These are our ideas, not xAI's.
- Start in one channel, like a team ops channel, before adding the Bot elsewhere.
- Keep drafts on for anything going to customers or the whole team.
- Tell your team what the Bot can and can't do, and who to ask about it.
- Avoid sharing private client details in channels the Bot can read.
